Club Future Statement
Since the announcement that 2015 would see XH558’s final flying season, the Club Committee has considered future options for the Club in a post-flight scenario. Central to these deliberations was securing an understanding of the Vulcan to the Sky Trust’s plans and how the Club and its members could best continue their support for XH558.
As a charity, the Vulcan to the Sky Trust has an obligation to look after XH558 ‘in the best possible condition’ in perpetuity. This is at the heart of all of their ambitious plans for the future: each initiative they develop will contribute either directly or indirectly to the future well-being of Vulcan XH558. Central to this ongoing care is the Guardians Scheme, which will act as the focus for specific and ongoing public support for XH558 as a hangared, live, taxiable aircraft, with all Guardians Scheme funds exclusively supporting XH558.
The Club Committee was heavily consulted during the development of the Guardians Scheme and we see the success of this initiative as critical to the long-term security of XH558. Furthermore, the aims of the Scheme are very much aligned with the objectives of the Club as set out within our constitution. On this basis, we considered that the future of the Vulcan to the Sky Club was inseparable from the XH558 Guardians Scheme and worked with the Trust to understand the mechanics of bringing the Club and the Guardians Scheme together.
We concluded that there were two ways in which the Club could be aligned with the Guardians Scheme: Integration and Association. These options were put to all of our Members, along with the third option of Dissolution, in the ballot accompanying the Club’s winter 2016 newsletter. The results of this postal vote are outlined below, as confirmed at the 2nd April 2016 Club Extraordinary General Meeting:
The Club Committee would like to thank all of our Members who took the time to vote and shape the future of the Vulcan to the Sky Club. We were delighted to receive responses from around 25% of our membership: the majority in favour of integrating the Club into the Guardians Scheme (91.7%) was overwhelming and ensures a fitting legacy for the Club.
As a consequence of the ballot result, as of 1st May 2016 the Vulcan to the Sky Club will no longer accept new or renewing Members. As their memberships expire over the next 12 months, and starting in April 2016 with the May 2016 standing order Members, Club Members will be sent their renewal papers by the Club’s membership team in the form of an invitation to join the XH558 Guardians Scheme with the privileged status of Founding Guardian. This status is reserved for current Club Members and provides an exclusive package of benefits as follows:
- Bi-annual Heritage Aviation Guardian magazine
- Bi-annual posted newsletter
- Founding Guardian badge, certificate and car sticker
- Founding Guardian regalia range
- Priority booking for hangar events
- Complimentary hangar visits (2 no. per year)
- Founding Guardian hangar event each year
- £10 web store gift voucher
- 5% off events, tours & merchandise
The current Club membership categories (single, joint, family, senior, overseas and honorary) are preserved and the annual membership fees will remain unaltered from the Club subscriptions for a minimum of 2 years. The Club Committee has formed a Guardians Scheme Advisory Team in conjunction with Trust personnel to offer advice as the scheme develops.
The Club will continue to function at an administrative level with a full Management Committee throughout the next 12 months to May 2017, at which point all memberships will have lapsed. For this reason, the final Club accounts will be presented to a Founding Guardians event in mid-2017. Any assets remaining at the point of closure of the Club accounts will be transferred into the Guardians Scheme as funds ring-fenced for XH558’s future upkeep in line with the decision of the 2nd April 2016 Club EGM.
The Committee recognises and applauds the commitment shown by the Members of the Club over the years and we thank each and every Member, past and present, for their contributions and support of XH558. We sincerely hope that you will continue that unwavering support as Club Members transitioning to Founding Guardians – XH558 still needs all of us!
