Central Stores report

by Ian Homer. Posted to category: Fundraising

on recent Open Day

With the forecast changing for the weekend from strong winds through to snow it was a relief on Sunday 12th February to open the doors of the Central Stores to only a chilly damp misty morning.

With everything in place in time for the 10.00am opening we welcomed a steady stream of visitors throughout the morning. We had the usual range of parts on offer and some of the more recent finds, the demand for XH558 directly related pieces proved irresistible and the specific area allocated to those soon provided a major draw.

The early arrivals inspect the parts on sale.

We also had a range of general merchandise on sale normally found on the webstore and at Airshows, this proved very popular given that Valentine’s Day was only a few days away. We also had a full range special artworks available having turned the office over to their sale these proved equally popular with the “AVRO Three Sisters” prints signed by Johnny Johnson and Martin Withers, selling out by lunchtime.  A brisk trade in signed and unsigned prints and original flown covers accompanied by a hot drink proved irresistible.

Along with the drinks we also had Ginger Bread Vulcans and Fancy Cakes, made by the children of one of our Hangar Volunteers.

They even came prepared with their sales sign

There was even a special ginger bread Vulcan

Thank you Alana and Marcus, you raised over £42 on the day by your efforts. Our newsletter today also highlights how they have carried on with fundraising and are now helping with #VulcanBake17 See here for how you can get involved.

So with the weather closing in by 15.00 hours it was time to close up shop again after yet another beneficial Open Day with all the funds raised going to the Survival Plan for XH558.

The big question on many peoples lips – “when is the next one” …. Our reply “ not for short while whilst we open some of the crates and the larger boxes – 8th April 2017, that’s the week before the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, so make a note now and watch our newsletters and webpage for updates.
