At Sywell she seemed to be putting out a lot more smoke than usual was there a mechanical reason for this or was it weather conditions or speed ?

Lovely lovely. Good to hear she's safely indoors, though of course, with all the positivity I can muster, I'm really looking forward to her coming outdoors again for the airshow season 2011 ;) .

Heating ??
Wouldn't the forthcoming MOD cuts mean they'll have to resort to a couple of wood-burning braziers & taking it in turns to slink around the camp scrounging broken pallets & packing crates ??
:o

Gotta love Vulcan smoke palls...... bit of a trademark :)

Glad she is undercover and warm for the winter months. (Maybe Sams' mitts might spend less time in his pockets then.. ;) )

I know they always smoke, but if you watch the video from the bank at Sywell they seemed to be smoking more than usual and I was curious as to why

Glad shes safely tucked up for the winter, and that you lovely engineers have somewhere niceish to work on her. Here's to seeing her emerge next spring ready to fly!!!

Perhaps Smiler had put some Redex in the Avtur to give that smoke trail effect as per the Arrows.

Lol

"Although some of the characteristic Olympus smoke is oil coming from the breather, most of it is the products of inefficient combustion, mainly oxides of nitrogen. Both the production of the smoke and the visibility of it in the air are variable with different atmospheric conditions, as well as with throttle setting. I guess the conditions on the day and the requirement to formate with the Blades must have been a particularly "bad" combination"

Probably because the engines had not been run for fourteen days previously, apart from a very brief run on Monday afternoon.

She is usually pretty smoky after being stood around for a while.

I noticed on a couple of the Leuchars departures pics that there seemed to be smoke coming from only one engine (no 2?? - port side inner), the others were fine.

It was a jolly cold morning so they might have used the choke to start up and Bill forgot to push it back in.
Well, it used to happen on my Ford Prefect. :)

Landyman.
I used to be retired then I found a Vulcan.
My travel blog - http://motorhomemoments.wordpress.com (Now with added Vulcan for even better value)
