Re: Forum Problems ONLY

Postby Gully » Wed Aug 04, 2010 12:34 pm

I'm finding that when I click on a posted link, it doesn't open in a new window, but instead of the forum. I then have to click the back button to retun to the forum. Bit of a pain when you follow further links. I'm using IE8 and it happens on both my work machine and home laptop.

Used to have this problem with Iconic (which uses the same software), but they've fixed that now! Be good if we can do the same. :)

Thanks, Paul.

If you click on "How To Help" , then on "Join The Vulcan To The Sky Club" , it takes you onto the OLD Forum { http://www.site.vulcantothesky.org/club_area.asp }

Also , where the "Archive" link to the old Forum has a message telling you to re-register for the new Forum , what some people would have been using as a direct Forum link { http://www.site.vulcantothesky.org/forums/ } has no such message !
As a result { and as others have already mentioned in other parts of this Forum } , there could be several Members who are unaware that the old Forum has been superceded { yes , I know it says " Vulcan To The Sky (ARCHIVE) Forum" at the top , but realistically how many would notice this ?
Same goes for the message in the "Website Announcements" topic there -- some people probably only bother reading curtain Forum areas.

Thanks for pointing these out - working on the links now.
This on top of the old forum should direct any who visit there:
This forum is now closed you must register on the new forum available from the club page, this page will remain for the next 12 months for reference only. (Yes, it will stay for good by request).

If you connect to the { old } Forum from the link I gave above { http://www.site.vulcantothesky.org/forums/ } , this message does not appear.

In all fairness that url became null and void when the new website was up and running. IIRC it was only used when the appeal website was up earlier this year.

Understood.
The only problem is that on the old Forum , we were told to switch to this url when the appeal was initialised.
As a result , there are almost curtainly a few people who have it saved as the default link.
I wonder if it's possible to add the "This forum is now closed you must register on the new forum" message there ?

On the Birthday page there is a 'hole', in fact it shows the start video icon of the first video that is part of the home page. Hope you understand that. You see the artifact if the curser is moved over that general area on the Birthday page. Got it?? ;)

edit, in fact there is a whole bunch of them in the area of the home page videos but on the Birthday page :?

Ian ;
Just had a thought Image ........
I know the old Forum is locked , but does the Twitter News still update on it ?? { Hard to tell , as the last one on both the old & the new Forum is from 28 July }
Just wondering if it would be worth making a Twitter update informing people of the new Forum url ??

Update to my previous post........
I've just checked on the old Forum ---- today's Twitter updates have appeared on there , so is it worth sending a "Twitter" to advise people about the new Forum ??

What has happened to the Events page? How do volunteers get information about the arrangements for forthcoming events?

I've noticed that if a post is edited, then it does not appear as the latest update within the topic in the way that it did with the old forum. Is it possible for this software to do this? It's particularly important in the Club Volunteers section, as when the lists are updated, it doesn't appear the topic has been altered.

Thanks,

Pics that are the boards max allowable size [800x600] are getting cropped on the right hand side for eg :
800x600 .

The same pic , reduced slightly .

I know its only a minor prob but its very annoying .
