Yes, it was a good day and we were very lucky with the weather. It was great to meet up with people again and meet a couple that I hadn't met before like TBMike.
The hosts, The Flying Shack, were very accommodating and made us very welcome and the Jet Age Museum were also very co-operative in moving up into the cafe area so we could have the whole of the briefing room for our merchandise and the simulator. The amount of people that attended was amazing thanks to the prior publicity on local radio, tv and press which was promoted by Darren Lewington, the Ops Manager at Gloucestershire Airport, and the notices about the event in the XH558 newsletters and on the forum from Damaris and Sarah. It was also Darren that had some copies of XM569 history printed off for attendees to peruse.

Thoroughly enjoyed myself and had a surprise present when my 7 year old grandson (Dhylan who came to Wellesbourne with me) bought the last advent calendar for me. :D

The day was chosen to coincide with the Santa Flights from Staverton, which everyone seemed to have enjoyed. If you want to do something a bit different next year with the kids, it might be worth considering - http://www.gloucestershireairport.co.uk ... _santa.pdf - and you never know, you may be able to pop in to visit '569 and stock up on Vulcan goodies for Christmas again! :D

Interesting ... does anybody know where the manual button is? I was told that the pilot opened the bomb doors and the co-pilot who had a bomb site in his window could release the bomb. Thats assuming they were in manual and not using the 91 way as with conventional bombs. Thank goodness it was never used.

The copilots bomb release was on a flexible lead. When not in use it clipped under the coaming. You can see it in this picture next to the SFOM bomb sight control - apologies for the quality but been there done that :D :D :D

Write up of the day including a lot of history on the GAC aircraft, understandable as the article is in Gloucester Transport History !
