Home page "Funding Appeal" - text resize needed

Postby wcg » Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:27 am

I'll probably be accused of nit-picking , but here goes........
In the "£300,000 Funding Appeal" 'box' on the Home page , there are 2 'fields' .... the yellow "Deadline 31st May" one and the blue "March Target" one.
Would it be possible to resize { reduce } the text-size in these , as currently you have to scroll-down in both of them to see the full text { and that's on a 22" WS monitor running in 1280x768 } .....to be honest , it just looks 'untidy'.

Looks good here on two different machines... 17" and 19", although I'll connect up a widescreen later to check that too.

Anyone else having that issue?

Thanks for the feedback.

Have you got your font size set to larger than normal?

Cheers,

Ian ;
Just resized my screen to it's natural resolution of 1680x1050 ...... still get them showing as 'scroll boxes' rather than seeing the full text.
In both 1280 & 1680 modes , I get the following :

The "Deadline" 'box' shows as :
'DEADLINE 31st
MAY
APPEAL TOTAL:'
Then you have to scroll down to see the '£108,449'

The "March Target" shows as :
'MARCH
TARGET
£75,000'
Then you have to scroll down to get :
'TO DATE:
£8,449'

Bryan ;
Nope ...... just double-checked that { I initially thought the same thing } -- text is set to '100%(default) { or 'smaller' as Win7 calls it ! }

OK, can see the problem now on the widescreen... most importantly, it drops the DONATE box off from the frame too.

I'll look at that ASAP.

Many thanks,

Just had a look on a whole collection of 'puters and have a problem on just one.

Safari on 27" iMac, 11" Mac Book Air, iPad and iPhone are just fine.
Chrome, Firefox and IE8 on Sony laptop are OK.
Dell desktop with 17" monitor using IE9 has scroll bars on both boxes although only the left box (Deadline 31st May) is not fully displayed. The right hand box is fully displayed although it has a scroll bar.

Looks like an oddity in IE9.

Landyman.
I used to be retired then I found a Vulcan.

Hmm.......
Tried it on my Netbook { Win7 , 10.1" WS display , 1024x600 res. }.......
Displays properly using Firefox { 8.0 } and IE8

Just going to update Firefox , then will check it again.

Edited to say :
Just updated Netbook to Firefox 10.0.2 ...... again , it displays properly !!

Looks like it's down to the screen -- my Netbook screen has a wider aspect ratio { 22cm wide , 12.5cm high = 1.76:1 } than my PC monitor { 47.5cm wide , 30cm high = 1.58:1 }

{ Edited again for 'pwr grammur' :lol: }

Dodgy here too on IE9. On Chrome it's fine. Each browser renders text slightly differently, according to various things. IE9 has decided scroll bars are necessary, and this has actually caused the word-wrapping.

Please all try it again on browsers/monitors with known issues... now seems to be OK here on three set-ups and all usual browsers.

I'll await to hear ...

Hmmm , again......
Just tried it in both FF & IE -- still has the scroll-bars.

Then I had an idea......restarted FF using the "restart with add-ons disabled" option -- lo and behold , it displays properly !! :o

Edited to say :

Just been having a play with the settings in FF ......
Tried turning off 'Tabs' , but that didn't work ; Tried adjusting my font { text } size settings , but that didn't work......then I de-selected the "allow pages to chose their own fonts" option , and it displayed properly !!

Ian ;
Oops ..... updated my previous post just after you & Tim posted !

Looking at it , it seems to work properly if you play around with the text font & size settings { and looking at it , the font styles in the "Deadline" 'box' differs from that of the "March"'box' .... plus the 'boxes' appear to be different widths }
Just checked ...... font in the "Deadline" box comes up as 18 , font in the "March" box comes up as 20 BOLD
