I suppose it depends whether said pictures / T-shirts also have the words "XH558" on them or not......after all , "XH558" is apparently copyrighted.
As for photos of XH558 { or any other aircraft or exhibit , for that matter }.....as discussed on the old Forum , that could also be legally "iffy" , if the photo was taken on private property or at an organised airshow / event { If you read the entry tickets / T&Cs , you'll usually find something along the lines of : "The Ticket Holder shall not without the Organisers' prior written consent sell, license, or otherwise exploit, or attempt to exploit, any material whether written or in the form of digital or photographic film, sound, video or other recording or computer software obtained or made at the Showground" }

So.....I have to ask........
How much , if anything , are these sites donating / paying royalties to the Trust ?? { And how many more companies are there out there trading on XH558 ?? }
After all , hasn't the Trust copyrighted the use of XH558 { or images thereof } for commercial usage ??
If not...why not ??

Can you actually copyright an object as opposed to patent it? I guess there must be some possibility of controlling the reproduction of images of your property but then I'm not in the position to need that! The oddest thing I heard that had been copyrighted/patented was the exhuast note of Harley Davidson bikes, but then I don't think any other company produces two wheel tractors anyway.... If the name 'XH558' is copyrighted then the people producing that T-shirt are probably on dodgy ground - especially as 'Vulcan' is a trademark of BAE as well.

As for the photos, they list the copyright holder and mainly appear to have been taken before the VTTS even existed, and we do not know if they had permission (if needed back then) from the event organisers to sell the shots. If you're that worried about people selling prints of 558, look on eBay. There's dozens, both contemporary and historical. Who knows, maybe some of the potential purchasers might put XH558 into Google and find our website, maybe even buy something too!

Reference the Calenders, I spoke to the manager of Calender Club who informed me that royalty payments are sorted out by his head office. This makes sense as they are selling large quantities of product that is made under licence; e.g Arsenel/Red arrows stuff.
They have put up a poster for me by the way.

Fiona's reply is noted and I will be ordering via web shop, as I prefer not to deal on ebay.
Have fun................ 8-)
Don't forget your old Phones and Toners/inkjet carts etc.
We DO make money from them.
Regards.

The Air Tattoo store sells the same stuff, so would assume it's all OK, but worth checking.

Yes I bought one of those cards last year.

I do not think the Trust would mind on this one ;) because the proceeds were going to the "Bomber Command Memorial" which is being built in London for all the Bomber aircrew who died in the Second World War.

At last they are being remembered :) :)

Thanks Paul. I bought a print in a white card frame of the same picture with proceeds going to Bomber Command Memorial Appeal when I went to IWM Duxford the other week.

I bought that picture as a card, and it's on my wall in a clip-frame.

The only other time I have bought anything 558-related that wasn't official, was when I bought a Clock from the RAF Wyton Family Day.

The proceeds were going to the RAF Memorial Fund.

My wife ordered the below Christmas tree baubles because it included XH558 but it was through the Air Tattoo website shop as we don't do them. Maybe an idea for next year.

The Air Tattoo store has some lovely stuff, which I usually manage to resist. However, I really want to create my own one of these desk calendars
http://www.airtattooprintshop.com/VPL/O ... 2080d41bd0 but this is where I suffer by not taking my own photos! :cry:
