Wall of Honour
« on: November 17, 2015, 05:37:46 PM »
Okay, how about putting the names in specific colours for a donation?
I said "no more passwords" and look what happened!

The wall is not to raise money,  it's a way to thank those who have already donated.

“The Spirit of Great Britain – Those who made it happen” - 1999-2015

A wall of honour recognising everyone who made it possible

It will be a massive task, but the Trust is committed to recording and honouring every single person who has donated £1 or more between 1999 and the end of 2015.

Time after time, it has been donations from people from all over the world that has allowed everyone’s dream to become a reality - the most complex aviation restoration project in the world followed by eight spectacular flying seasons – and everyone should be rightly proud of that achievement.

Between now and Christmas, the Trust will be consolidating our various lists and information sources to create a searchable online listing of everyone who has contributed.

Once it is announced and populated, we will give time for it to be checked and corrected if necessary before a final ‘travelling wall’ will be produced for Hangar 3 and placed on display in time for summer. Once the aircraft moves to the new facilities planned, the wall will move with her.

Best of all, if you are a donor you need to do nothing now.

We do the work and our newsletters will give you the full details for checking that your entry is correct before we produce anything final. We estimate over 70,000 names are eligible for this honour.
DO KEEP FOLLOWING THESE NEWSLETTERS FOR GREAT NEW DEVELOPMENTS.

Yep, read it all too, and understand it, but there is an opportunity to ask those who want, to donate even more for the pleasure of knowing their names are "highlighted".

Understand that, and can see how it could generate more 'dosh' for the team (me probably being one of them) but might it not be seen as a bit 'I gave more than you' ? To me, the wall is more a thank you to all who donated, no matter how large, or how small.

I can see your point, which was not lost on me.

Depends - did you write your name on the back of the white fiver?

I would have accompanied this with a wink thing (but for some reason they don't work for me!)

The Trust has to have a record, so do send in a cheque for £1 now with your name and address (or any other amount) if you feel you might have been missed! ;-)

There are no plans to make the list in any format of the amount given. That would be unfair and is against the spirit that everyone made it happen - every £ just as valuable as the next.
That was a common theme in the appeals and it remains that way.

It also gives a chance to honour all those who have regularly paid by direct debit or standing order and never got the benefit of some of the incentive schemes like a Bomb-bay name.

Although it might create a few more donations, as Sam has said, that was never the aim.  (You do give me an newsletter feature idea though......)

I suspect it doesn't, but would this include Club members who have given indirectly, but possibly never directly?  Just anticipating the gripes from those who have done this.
I'm masking my indifference with a veneer of detachment

Hi Tim,

If you are thinking of volunteers who have given their time, then yes, I think that is also the plan.
It is a list of names and nothing more... and there will be time for people to check, or for others to write in and say that perhaps, 'such and such' deserves to be on.

As it mentions, it's a bit of a mammoth task...

Does this include the Justgiving donations for the national tour? And those who have  purchased through the shop/Vulcan Ale/raffle tickets etc?

I take it the roll of honour will include all those who paid off topic fines in the earlier iterations of the forum?

Try entering a semi colon, ( ; ) immediately followed without a space by a closing bracket, ( ) ) it will hopefully look like this ;)

What about those who have thought about donating? (Only where the sum being considered was over £1.00 obviously).

Perhaps these names could be in italics?
