Vulcan Village / Vulcan Village - Dunsfold 23rd / 24th August
« on: August 18, 2014, 09:00:01 PM »
We are in our usual place and yes we do have our Member's Only Enclosure.

For those of you who didn't see the new "Hamlet" at Cosford or Yeovilton look for something different ! A case of continuous development may see minor alterations yet again ..........but it works and the atmosphere is great

We are shown in the Programme and given the proximity on the Flight line we will open up the Members Enclosure, pleae remember that if you wish to use this you must present your membership card and it must be current as of the day. We do not have a Members print out and as the enclosure is very popular we cannot make exceptions no card no admittance - sorry.

Most of the new merchandise will be on sale together with a bargain table. Don't forget your £5 off vouchers we weren't planning on being down your way again this year

So come and visit us we like a chat and a we just know you want to buy something

Vulcan to the Sky Events

As anticipated there will be a full Vulcan Village at RAF Waddington Airshow on  July 5th & 6th 2014 with Set-up on Fri, July 4th.

Volunteers for the event will impact on the size of the Village we will take to the event.
As we all know the Vulcan Village is a popular destination for visitors to the show and the bigger it is the more sales we make with increased revenue going to maintaining the aircraft.

Should anyone wish to Volunteer to staff the unit then please PM me or email either ian.homer@vulcanto the sky.org or myself on bobjackson@vulcantothesky.org

There are regulars who will help you so don't worry if you have never done it before.
This topic is repeated in the Events section.

Vulcan Village / Armed Forces Day - Scarborough 28th June 2014
« on: June 05, 2014, 08:57:53 AM »
There will be merchandising presence at Armed Forces Day on  Sat June 28th 2014 with set-up possible on Jul 27th.

This is a call for prospective Volunteers at the event.  The numbers available will impact on the size of the Village we will take to the event.
We have not done Scarborough before (I think) so it is a new audience and it could be very busy

As we all know the Vulcan Village is a popular destination for show visitors and the bigger it is the more sales we make with increased revenue going to maintaining the aircraft.

There are regulars who will help you so don't worry if you have never done it before.

Should anyone wish to consider Volunteering to staff the unit, please PM me or email me on bobjackson@vulcantothesky.org or post here

Many thanks
Kind regards

By choice of the independent judges the winner is

Mr Tim (Tim Bell)

who in their assessment concluded that on the basis of following the rules for avoiding sunstroke by wearing a hat and coordinating his diving equipment (yellow and black) whilst managing to avoid being attacked by either sharks or Bedouins did manage to look as if it was an everyday occurance to go diving in a baseball cap !

Congratulations Tim

Your prize is on the way shortly ...................................................oh you want to know what it is..................

a 'Spirit of Great Britain' Baseball Cap of course

Vulcan Village / Dunsfold 2011 - Vulcan Village
« on: August 22, 2011, 01:54:13 PM »
As you may be aware The Vulcan Vuillage at Dunsfold this year is the larger version approx 10m x 15m with extensions there will also be a 3m x 3m gazebo for use by Event Volunteers at the entrance to the Enclosure (note this is not big enough for Club Members to use if the weather is inclement added to which it has no sides :( )

The full range of 2011 Clothing should be available (assuming they didn't sell it all at Bournemouth) together with the usual variety of mechandise - we should also have the new Trolley coins, recycle pens in their smart yellow and black livery, and a large quantity of luggage labels.

So come and see us and remember we are not there to stand around doing nothing we are there to sell so don't forget your wallets and purses

Vulcan Village / WADDINGTON WEEKEND 2011
« on: July 04, 2011, 08:37:22 PM »
I would just like to thank all volunteers including Club Members, family and friends of Club Members and Aircrew wives who help out at a particularly busy Vulcan Village on Saturday and Sunday 2nd & 3rd July at Waddington.

I would especially thank those who helped fill the van on Sunday after the show closed, we were still doing tours at 6.00pm so the Village was still open but once closed all stock was checked, boxed and then loaded. The van has never been that full and how it all went in was a surprise to some especially as we had collected some 45 additional large boxes containing some 1575 item of clothing from the new range on top of the normal stock level !!

So to all who manned the Village, to the Club for emergency additional supplies, the our suppliers who worked flatout for the week before the show to have the new clothing available and especially to all those who came to visit, chat and buy ...... a heart felt thank you

Don't forget that Village will be at Yeovilton then Fairford where we hope to add still more to the clothing range

Engineering / Nose and Cockpit
« on: June 03, 2011, 05:09:15 PM »
Looking at the article from the Daily Mail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1392001/Vulcan-stars-little-large-airshow-Falklands-bomber-takes-skies-more.html I noticed in the background of the second picture a Nose and Cockpit section on what appears to be a trolley.
Could someone enlighten those less fortunate beings of the history etc behind this entity and it's current location?

Photo Competitions / THE 2011 FUN PHOTO COMPETITION

FUN PHOTO COMPETITION

You may already have seen in the latest Club Magazine there is a FUN PHOTO COMPETITION this year.
The Competition is open to all members of the Club so please if you can quote you membership number it would be beneficial.
The rules are very simple:

1) Take a photo at a faraway location or domestic location EXCLUDING air-shows
2) The photograph should include XH558 branded clothing or merchandise, club magazine or leaflet
3) The photo or title thereof should indicate the location and when it was taken
4) Then the comments can flow and sometime towards the end of the year we pick a winner
5) There is no entry fee this is a fun thing (but please feel free to donate anyway!)

So for example someone might take a photo of a person reading the magazine wearing a strappy top on the top of Snowdon whereas another might take a pic of someone in a hoody on the Equator !
I think you get the gist, it is not the furthest away that will win it's the most original or amusing.

So feel free to postaway here
or
if you wish e-mail to enuos@btinternet.com

Have Fun  :D

Sorry if this has already been posted but have any of you picked up the following

The RAF is to axe 53 fighter jets that cost at least £4.6 billion and only became operational three years ago.
The Typhoon aircraft, previously known as the Eurofighter, only came into frontline service in June 2007, but a senior air force officer says they will be “approaching obsolescence by 2015”.

The decision to scrap the jets, regarded as among the most advanced in the world, was described last night as “the economics of the madhouse” by Jim Murphy, the shadow defence secretary.

“The government appears to have no respect for the RAF and the crucial role it plays in our defence or for the serious costs to the taxpayer,” said Murphy.

The 53 Typhoons that formed the first tranche of the order, are thought to have cost about £86m each.

The other jets coming into service over the next few years, which will have greater capability, will cost well in excess of £100m each.

However, Air Vice-Marshal Greg Bagwell, who is in charge of all RAF frontline attack aircraft, told Aviation Week magazine that the “Tranche 1” Typhoons would not be required beyond 2015.

He said the jet would become “prohibitive for us to operate” and “too expensive to modify” once Britain had taken delivery of more capable planes. Saudi Arabia is already buying 72 aircraft originally intended for Britain and there are now plans to sell up to 15 more “Tranche 3” jets to Oman. Scrapping the 53 Typhoons as well will leave the RAF with just 92 of the planes. The MoD said: “We consider all options when disposing of military equipment to ensure the best financial return for the taxpayer.”

Plus one Vulcan of course ;) albeit in private hands
