Sorry, only one place available. Only five days, so shake out those piggy banks now!
All to a very good cause.

If i lived closer this would be one for me .....
But what a great offer........
-
Two reasons I cannot bid.
1 Won't be able to afford to bid :(
2 Too far away :(
Good luck to whoever gets it.
-
Well my bid was surpassed some way back and the bidding looks like it's leading to a great boost to the funds - brilliant.
-
Here's hoping it gets MUCH higher! Still three days to go. :D
-
Currently at £771.00 :D
-
I was lucky enough to do this for free in the VDF days with paul millikin in the hot seat :D it was awesome a day to remember for the rest of my life!
-
personally i think this was not the way to do it. as usual - only gives the rich a chance of doing it. a raffle would have probably raised more money.

Quite agree Sir. Have realised that you can only get good things if you have quite a bit of money.

Maybe they will do one later on as a raffle, however, we've had 2(?) of them already this year and they take a bit of organising. Unfortunately, this is a money game, and the VTST must raise the maximum they can. They cannot afford to give away this sort of thing for any less than top dollar.

afford to give a away? the engines have to be run anyway, its not just done for the prize. if it was they would have to charge a could of thousand :D
-
What is the difference between having to pay loads of money for the engine run, but are NOT allowed to charge for hanger tours. It's the same aircraft on the same RAF base.
-
The fact is it has a value, otherwise people wouldn't have bid on it. So do they let someone come and see it for a tenner, or a grand?

only need a 100 enties and you have a grand!! and i bet you'd get more like 5K to 10k via raffle..
yes an individual pays a tenner, a grand just takes another opertunity away from the average vulcan fan.
still think the raffle would raise far more...

That's why the Blades flights were offered as one auction prize & one raffle prize.
However, the direct consequence of this was we got hammered by an un-named, online merchant because they needed a continent of paperwork before they'd let us sell raffle-tickets for anything. I know they made some very serious threats if 'we' didn't cease our dodgy activities immediately (basically - stop it or we will close down your account). And I also know that the process was highly automated (nothing but automated replies to 'our' emails with further threats). There are some folk that you cannot reason with...
As a result, I suspect this offering could only be sold as an auction-prize.
I know Ian is badgering away so that the required status is agreed with the un-named, online merchant...
Ian (and the rest of us) know very well we'd have made more by offering it in two guises but that couldn't be (perhaps though, the reasons could have been spelled out here so everyone understood the situation - another lesson learned).

We got permission to allow visitors onto the Unit last Thursday. We had, therefore, eight working days before the engine runs. We would not have had time to sort out a raffle of any description and do all the mail shots to all the members of the club and get a winner out of the end of it in time for the run.
Note: we would have had to do a mail shot because not everyone in the club has access to a computer and if we hadn’t done a mail shot, then those people would have had a right to complain.
We thought it a good idea as it was easily managed and would raise much needed cash for the coffers in a short period of time and would give someone an opportunity to experience something that they will probably never forget.
I wonder if the BBC gets grief for auctioning items for Children in Need. I for one am well chuffed that they raise such an amount of money for the charity, even though the price of the prize is well beyond my reach.
Maybe we can raffle the one that we will be having in March, at least we have ample time to sort it out. And before anyone starts on the Trust, it was the Engineers who came up with the idea – guilty m’lud.

I don't disagree, but as I mentioned previously, we've had 2 raffles already this year and they take a bit of organising, and they probably have plans to do this on the next raffle. You can't just throw together a raffle just because you have a single prize like this.

Thanks for that :D i know know why the auction route was taken :) i hope it goes well and raises loads
I was really just trying to point out, that there are many many many members that would love the chance (i would even though i have done it many times elswhere), and they arnt flush enough to pay £1000 for chance but may spend and £1,£2,£5 or Tener for a chance :)
-
It raised £1,020.00
-
I'll feel a lot happier once it's confirmed that the money has actually been paid ;) .
Assuming no problems then that seems an excellent result :) . Hopefully further engine runs can similarly be offered as incentives either through another auction, raffle or other scheme as deemed appropriate :?:
-
Yes, that is the plan - offering different ways that "experiences" can be enjoyed.
You don't need vast wads of cash for a chance and it is fair to all pockets.
I'll be contacting the winning bidder tomorrow.

Great result.
