Title: New Ideas for Sponsorship
Post by: bigmike67 on September 11, 2010, 09:35:51 AM
What about and this..It might have been thought of before and if it has i apoligise... why  do we not offer sponser's   a logo on the brake parachute or a complete brake parachute with there particular company message on   or colour it is possable  that companies like  Virgin Atlantic might be interested the photographs taken at deployment can be used time and time again by the company it should not offend the purest and it is rather something special to offer a sponser.... :)

Hardly a cheap (or viable?) form of sponsorship I suspect.

From the "Knickers" thread it was established that:

Each stream of the chute costs around £300 in repacking - it is a specialist job for an outside contractor.

Each chute has a finite life of 31 deployments and then needs replacing at a cost of £35,000.00

So taking into account repacking and life time costs each stream costs around £1,200.00.

I would guess a minimum of 3 chutes would be required (active, spare, being repacked) so around £100,000.00 initial capital costs plus £1,200.00 per deployment to cover the repacking and future replacement costs  :o .

There may be wear and tear issues on the aircraft as well - although this is a guess on my part.

The idea was you could attract sponser's outside the Aviation World..Keloggs/Cadbury's/Ford /Nissan/etc it is a very unique form of advertising and very much at the moment...to shoot a an advertising commercial it can cost well over 100 grand so the costing side for large companies is not an issue...to keep the old lady flying you have to think outside the box .... :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

One other slight snag. The chute is hardly ever used, especially since most displays are 'fly in/out' with no landing. And when it is used it's often at Lyneham or Brize away from the public.

Is cost the only reason for not using the chute? Could it be deployed on every landing if someone was paying for it?
It would add to the drama if it was used whenever 558 lands in front of the paying public and it might be worth the expense to a sponsor.
Even a fast taxi finishing with the chute could make for some good photos/video that an advertiser might pay for.

I think the main reason for not using it is that it's just not necessary at the locations where 558 is able to land (which isn't many, especially at locations like Lowestoft ;) ). Quite how you'd get anything printed on a chute I don't know.  They are (it is?) ex-Victor chutes I believe, and they're not solid like a traditional parachute.

I agree, it is quite spectacular to see (check out the end of my Farnborough 2008 video :) ), but I think the practicalities and costs are stacked against it.

It's a good idea but unfortunately not practical regarding value for money to the sponsor.

In my opinion we would be much better off putting our sponsors on the products we produce, IE the photobook, how much would it of cost to put an extra page in the book titled the trust would like to thank the following sponsors for there finacial support, or even in the club mag, maybe even within the Vulcan Village and club stalls banners with the sponosrs on, we could even have a sponsors shirt as in F1.

Im sure that would get to more people over the year than most other ways

Now where were we,Yes Brake Parachute's does the chute have to be designed to arrest the aircraft or can can be deployed at a lower rate of knot's the chutes could be much less expensive and more cost efficative to a sponser the types of sponser's as i said in an earlier posting could be outside the aircraft world.....with this announcment by the trust of money running out it is even more imperitive that we explore all these avenue's...

I could sell you a job lot of fullstops and commas, might make understanding your post a tad easier

Anyway, assuming you're suggesting effectively a 'non-functional' chute that could be streamed purely for effect, answer is it'd probably be more expensive! Any deviation from spec would almost certainly be classed as a design modification by the aircraft's design authority, and cost bucketloads in design and certification. That's assuming the design authority and CAA would even allow the removal of what is an item of safety equipment.

Thank you for the english lesson i have alway's used e mail's as scribbled notes, not as typed letter's.And i will continue to use e mail's in that way.

These posting's as i understand it are like a think tank to toss idea's around and we need idea's on how to attract large money sponser's .....you think of some idea's then... :?  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Watching Liverpool play last night ( hoping they would lose ;) ) and noticed that they had DEWALT advertising around the ground. How about getting in touch with a firm like that? We could say that our Engineers use their tools to keep 558 flying? Or Scotch tape? Worth a try isnt it?

I'm assuming the above post is very much tongue-in-cheek?!

From what I've been told, members of the Trust are working flat out pursuing various avenues to secure income, including a host of leads gained at Farnborough and RIAT. Michael Trotter's fuel usage must be approaching '558's by now!!
