Aviation Waffle / Re: No Sea Vixen for Bournemouth
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:20:10 PM »
I spoke to a friend last weekend who seems to know the goings on of just about everything at hurn (including the selling/departure of the buccaneer to Ireland last week :-( ) and he seemed to be sure the CAA were unhappy with the thickness of the materials (metals I assume???) that were use to repair certain parts that had to be made new for the repairs to be carried out. He followed by saying the CAA asked them who instructed them to use that particular spec, and the reply followed with "you did". So from what I understand the issues are with the repairs and the CAA?
Sorry if I seem to be speaking in riddles, its been a long time since I contributed to a forum ;-)
All in all sad news, but it seemed to be on the horizon as there seemed to be total silence on her progress across the whole entire www since the accident including on UKAR who have the Sea Vixens chief engineer (PK) as an occasional poster.

Fingers crossed they can fill her boots with something that will keep eyes to the sky instead of increasing the queues at the toilets.......

First possible attempt at posting tonight due to not wanting to put a downer on a close friends 50th Birthday.

I witnessed the announcement @ 19:19 on BBC News 24................Gutted, not surprised, amazed, how could this of happened (all my emotions). All our (My family alone and more) condolences go out to Jon's immediate friends, family and crew. He really touched us only two weeks ago when we were at the "secret location" at Hurn getting all their autographs, when Jon personally made it his responsibility to make sure my 2 little ones had all 9 Reds sign their 2011 Red Arrows posters & post cards. We we're Jon & Zane short of the full 9, when Jon came over and signed our posters. He then immediately took it upon himself to make sure Zane gave us a signature to give us the full set of 9!

We were very taken back by Jon's kindness............

R.I.P. Jon Egging.

I will be putting flowers down at Bournemouth Town Hall and Signing his book of condolences with this very same message today @ 12pm.

Stigish.....................Massive loss...................

I did wonder what was going on. I was driving past Ibsley at about 4pm-ish on Sunday and nearly crashed when I realised a Spitfire was overhead! Noted for next year.

Bugger, missed it  :( .

Bryan, I know what you mean about it sounding different when theres hardly anyone around. I saw her display in Lymington earlier in the month including a flypast or two with G-NATY, and it sounded better than ever!

3 WEEKS TO GO!!!!!  :D

Aviation Waffle / Re: BAM Vulcan Cockpit Closed

My 3yr old absolutely loved climbing in and out of the Vulcan cockpit, and was absolutely gutted when we went there last Saturday and his favourite hide from Mummy place was closed (Obviously I would acompany him when hiding   ). The bit that made our visit harder for him was the sight of his dispair when I sat him in the Lightning cockpit and the engine start sound effects kicked from the built in speakers (Never heard them before  :o )......He's never wanted to get out of something so quickly.......He soon explained why though........"I didn't want it to go flying, you do it Daddy" he said through his tears    Our day was mostly spent pretending to fly the wessex in and out of the airport and picking up passengers on the bus  :D

Good Luck with the evening Mike  :D .
Sadly I won't be attending as I'm now going to be in Guildford on a Medical Trial. Hopefully see you all at some future meetings instead.

First time I've posted here in a while.......................
1x Tornado flying very low and loud over Fleets Bridge (Poole) at about 12pm today followed by a Wokka about an hour later. Probably the most activity over since 558 was here in August.  :D

The weather here in Bournemouth is terrible again today  :?   so far the flying schedule is going ahead as normal, but the way the weather is looking I'm not hopeful of it continuing.......

Aviation Waffle / Re: Bournemouth Airshow question
« on: August 17, 2010, 09:23:09 PM »
Chairs yes, space............probably not  :(  The cliff top gets pretty full as its level/above the aircraft. The turn out for the show is very weather dependant. Alot of the families from the area go by the weather, so if its grey/damp you could get a good spot. When you arrive, if get a taxi, do it from the Asda side of the station and ask them to drop you off at the Menzies Carlton Hotel. Its right across the road from the commentary box (crowd centre) and if you decide to go down to the beach there is the lift and a path that takes you right below. If you walk, head for the same place (see bryank's post for map/directions).

Good luck  :D

You will ideally need to get there as early as possible, as the beach was pretty much full both saturday & sunday last year from about 11am!

I was sat on the beach last year in line with the Cliff lift which has the commentary position right on top. That way you are right next to the clearing for the Marines Beach Assult and pretty much crowd centre.

If you go on Sunday, after the marines have finished they open up the area they used (or at least they did last year), which is bang on centre and because most people have made camp with wind breakers, tents etc they don't move. I moved into the opening last year and I was like having all the space in the world with no one to spoil the view.

As for the train, I beleive Pink Peril (correct me if I'm wrong) used the train once before and she said it was a nightmare! Where are you travelling from as there are 3 park & ride sites which charge £10 for parking and bus to the show. They could be a useful alternative & the buses stop very close to the beach.

Have a good weekend & look out for any pale blue XH558 T-shirts (we don't bite)  ;)

I wonder what the mentioned 'alternatives' to the hawk display might be???

Its sad news all the same. More details as they are known I assume........

According the the 'Official Red Arrows' Facebook page, their ETA at bournemouth is planned for 17:20 today...............I'm sure that'll be weather permitting? If its as wet, grey and windy in Scampton as it is here in Bournemouth it could be an issue.......
