Aviation Waffle / Russian Radar in operation
« on: April 08, 2015, 10:45:00 AM »

I would be very grateful if anyone can help me find some short clips of Russian Radars used in the 60's/70's ( Fan Song/Rock Cake) etc actually in operation.
I have looked on line & can find the odd still but no movies.

Many thanks.

Former Ground Crew / Urgent reminder
« on: June 05, 2014, 11:31:57 AM »

I make no apology for posting this in both the Aircrew & Groundcrew sections for obvious reasons.

Tony Burton's son posted this link to the petition calling on the Government to recognise those who served during the Cold War. If you haven't signed yet & think it worthy of support, please do so NOW - it closes tomorrow!!

Ways To Raise Funding / Easy Fund Raising!
« on: March 31, 2013, 09:12:34 AM »
Why does it take so long for a simple suggestion made by a member to be acted upon?

Two months ago I suggested we should get involved with Easy Fund Raining via www.easyfundraising.org.uk so that our lovely aircraft could benefit from the purchasing power of our members, most if not all of whom make internet purchases from sites such as Amazon & eBay etc.. Nearly all the popular sources will happily donate a percentage of your purchase price to the charity of your choice, provided it is registered. All the well-known organisations are already there such as Oxfam, Royal British Legion, Canterbury Cathedral, etc but Vulcan to the Sky is dragging it's heels?

Why? Just visit the site & read the blurb & you will see how, at no cost whatever, our cause could benefit!

It really is a no-brainer or is it that those who make that sort of decision have no brains? I sometimes wonder!

Ways To Raise Funding / Christmas Cards!
« on: October 23, 2011, 09:46:30 AM »
Hi, folks!

I have decided that, as it now costs so much to post a Christmas Card, I will not be sending any this year but will make a donation to Charity instead (if I can think of one!! ;)  ;)   ) and, if I gift aid it, that might even make it better! Who wants to join me? :?:  :?:  :?:

Former Aircrew / Flying the Vulcan!
« on: August 05, 2010, 08:56:33 AM »
The opportunity to post the first "Former Aircrew" post is too great to miss!

Flying a Vulcan was, and no doubt still is, a fantastic experience. Just before I joined the RAF I had always wanted to fly Spitfires and it was a great disappointment to me when they phased them out, but I lived near Farnborough & actually watched Roly Falk do his famous barrel roll on take-off in 1955! I changed my mind on the spot & you can imagine how thrilled I was to be posted to Finningley in 1963.  :D  :D  (Those were the days when kids knew what they wanted to do before they left school - now they don't know, even after they have left University!) She is so responsive for a big aircraft that it is hard to believe and had all the power you need to do anything that was required of her when she was in active service, especially when they brought in the 300 series engines. I only had the pleasure of performing one display, in XM652 at Bentwaters in 1968, but I did land XJ825 at Biggin Hill in 1967. It's a long time ago but I think the minimum runway length required was 4500ft. I understand that the pilot who took off afterwards (and that was not me!) might have made the odd pothole in the runway but that could be just a rumour!
