Aviation Waffle / Canberra PR9 - XH134

Many congratulations to the Midair chaps down at Kemble. Building on their static appearance at RIAT, they have now secured their Permit to Fly, repainted the aircraft and got their display authorisation!  ;D

First display is Jersey later this week, before performing at Goodwood next weekend.

Absolutely fantastic news! And what's even better is that it's planned for her to be part of a 3-ship with two Hunters in 2014!!  ;D

Interesting article on the BBC website examining the aircraft and ordnance that Israel could employ in raids against Iranian nuclear facilities:

Damning report released by the Sheriff at Lanark Court:

This goes further than the air accident verdict / conclusion.

Very sad for all involved - hope they can now move on.

Aviation Waffle / Thunder City Sell-off

Mayfly posted this over on Iconic a couple of weeks ago. Anyone fancy an airworthy Lightning, Buccaneer or Hunter? See here:

If I had the money to make a choice, I'd go for a Buccaneer...  ;)

Book / Film / TV Reviews / Vulcan - In The News

Received this DVD as a birthday present yesterday and watched it last night. Some interesting archive footage that's not appeared on other Vulcan videos and DVDs over the years. Aside from inferring towards the end that the RAF had delivered '558 to Bruntingthorpe in 2005 (!), I enjoyed it. Well worth a watch.

Aviation Waffle / Buccaneer on the M25...
« on: May 19, 2011, 05:59:48 PM »
As Gill and I were leaving the M25 and getting onto the M40 on our way up to Abingdon on Sunday 8th May 2011, a desert pink cammo Buccaneer was on a low loader going northbound on the M25. I'd wondered if it was Hendon's, but that was still in place as of the AGM last weekend and the only other preserved Buccs I know of in desert storm colours are Elvington's (bit far afield) and Kemble's (not sure why that would not be at Kemble.

Any knowledge out there?

Book / Film / TV Reviews / 617 - Last Days of a Vulcan Squadron

Purchased this last week from Duke DVD. Various snippets of footage from it have appeared in different Vulcan 'tribute' programmes over the years, but it's good to see it in full. Only 40-45min long though, which is a real shame as it literally flies past. Interesting persepctive on the retirement of the Vulcan pre-Falklands conflict. My favourite aspect is the final 617 flight taking in Derwent Reservoir, which is shown both from the ground and on board XL318 (yes, the airframe that now resides at Hendon).
