Ways To Raise Funding / Tax discs
« on: October 16, 2014, 10:14:14 PM »
Just an idea to see if it can go anywhere ...

With the demise of the car tax disc, can we produce a Vulcan equivalent that would fit in the now empty slot on every windscreen? We would sell it in the same way as the fundraising certificates and the buyer would cut it out to fit maybe from a choice of designs?

It needs an amusing strap line to replace the bar code, which is where better suggestions are needed from you all .... but to get you started.

Permit to Howl
Delta Tax
4 Jet License
Noise Permit

It could have all the usual details and at first glance would look similar

Vulcan Flies (background text instead of expires)
30 Sep 2015 (assumed end of flying season or forever :()
XH558 (registration)
Avro (manufacturer)
B2 (class)
Stamp of issue VTSC Doncaster etc.

If it could be made amusing then it might sell well and start a trend?  The key is to be quick off the mark.

What do you think?

A fascinating book by Wing Commander Jeremy Brown who was serving as Air Attache in Brazil.  He helped sort out XM597's unexpected arrival in Rio.
He describes the C130, VC10, Nimrod and Canberra activity that was also going on too.

Engineering / Fuel leaks

With the news that a new fuel tank is needed

and that no repair to patch up the paddling pool is possible.  What is the status of the other tanks?  I assume if one is gone all the others must be in a similar state?
Would a tank stripped from an indoor museum aircraft would be deemed unacceptable?  Could the Portsmouth crew test one quicker than making one.

Engineering / Control Rod Roller Bearings
« on: December 09, 2012, 11:25:01 PM »
I have just received my pack of 3 control rod bearings dated 1963.  I steamed the box open and had a look inside.  The ancient Egyptians would have been proud of the packing.  I opened up one bearing carefully wrapped in plastic and then in waxed cloth.  The bearing looked fine, but the grease was rather like candle wax.

What steps do the engineers have to take before using original parts like this?  I assume that all the protective grease needs cleaning off and new applied?  Just unwrapping the parts is a lengthy job.

Now to think of an inventive use around the house for the bearings?

Ways To Raise Funding / Olympus engines

Think positive everybody.
We have two Olympus engines full of turbines blades to sell.  Please can somebody work out what we need to raise to swap and re-certify / test flight the engines and lets get the appeal started.  Then divide up the bits for sale by the cost and lets start the sale now in return for a promise of a very small bit of XH558 in the future when time allows.
