Ways To Raise Funding / Re: V Force Tour Success?
« on: July 02, 2015, 08:50:35 PM »
XH558's final formal visit to fly over her 'sister' Vulcan, XM655, at Wellesbourne Mountford airfield was witnessed by a huge crowd of happy enthusiasts at 1:34pm yesterday afternoon. This was the second of two nationwide 'Salute to the V-Force' flights to pay homage to every complete surviving Vulcan, Victor and Valiant nuclear bomber that provided Great Britain’s strategic (latterly tactical) nuclear deterrent during the Cold War between the 1950s and 1980s.

XM655 was towed across to the Market site on the airfield especially for yesterday’s event in order that visitors could make the most of the excellent car parking and viewing facilities at the eastern side of the airfield. It was appropriate that so many enthusiasts chose Wellesbourne as the place to view this spectacle as XM655 is the most originally complete as well as fully operational of the remaining Vulcans.

Vulcan to the Sky supporters 'rattled buckets' in the car park, whilst MaPS volunteers did the same 'airside' to allow even closer access to XM655 whilst viewing XH558 in the air close overhead.

MaPS collected £2,100 in donations during the day and I am delighted to announce that the MaPS committee immediately agreed to pass on 50% of the total collected to Vulcan to the Sky Trust to support their activities during this final flying season for the only remaining airworthy Vulcan in the world. A payment has already been made to VTTST of £1,050. MaPS committee and volunteers are very grateful to everyone who donated money yesterday!

Charles Brimson
Chairman – 655MaPS

655MaPS are delighted that XH558 will be appearing over Wellesbourne on Sunday 28 June after the sortie departs Doncaster airport at 1300 (current best estimate is 1330L at Wellesbourne). Come along to the Wellesbourne Market site (same location as last weekend's Wings and Wheels event) to be a part of what will probably be the last ever time to see these two Vulcans together! Gates open at 1000. Admission and parking is free, however if you want to stand very near to XM655 when XH558 flies over her ‘sister’ and be in the best position to get both aircraft in your pictures, then please put a suggested minimum cash donation of £5 in one of our 655MaPS buckets at the entrance to the airside entry point that is being specially set up for the event. This is an unmissable photographic opportunity for everyone! Volunteers from both 655MaPS and Vulcan to the Sky Trust will be in attendance at this event.

XM655 will be towed over from her usual pan next to the South Warwickshire Flying School to the runway adjacent to the Market site before the Market gates are opened at 1000. XM655's bomb doors will be open throughout the event, although the aircraft will be static and cockpit tours will not be possible.

The usual XM655 pan will be CLOSED for this event – do not visit the Loxley Lane site, nor will cars be allowed to park in the South Warwickshire Flying School car park.

We look forward to seeing you at the Wellesbourne Market site from 1000 on Sunday 28 June for an unmissable event!

on behalf of 655MaPS i would like to thank everyone who attended www2015 and those that couldn't but support us through the years . WWW2015  was possibly the biggest show we have done.  thank you everyone, without you we could look after xm655

We are delighted to announce that XH558, the world’s only airworthy Vulcan, will be joining us at Wings & Wheels on 21 June! The aircraft, crewed by Bill Ramsey, Martin Withers and Phil Davies, will display at the airfield before departing to the Weston Air Festival. The timing is not yet confirmed, but will be in the afternoon. This will be one of the last times to see XH558 flying at Wellesbourne since 2015 has been confirmed as the venerable Vulcan’s final flying season.

Also displaying will be the Rolls-Royce Spitfire piloted by Bill Dean and scheduled to display at 1400.

But of course the star of the show is our very own XM655 which will conduct two fast taxis at 1200 and 1500.

We look forward to seeing you there....

Nor a response to a technical question about one externally visual aspect of XH558, that had to wait for a superb tour of XM655 inside and out.

hello paul, welcome to forum.. which tour did you attend at 655:) glad you enjoyed
