Hope it means the Vulcan's volume goes up to 11 this year!

I hate O Hagan as a sports commentator too so I'm still glad he's been binned.  :D

You can't beat the sound of those Griffon's. Would be lovely to see and hear a Shackleton flying again.

Aviation Waffle / Red Arrows Inquest: Jon Egging
« on: December 13, 2012, 03:56:31 PM »
The inquest reports that there is evidence that the crash which cost Flt Lt Jon Egging his life at Bournemouth in 2011 was due to G induced impairment after performing the break to land manoeuvre.

Usually around mid March until mid May.

Engineering / Re: The Remaining Engines
« on: October 30, 2012, 09:55:11 PM »
Well if you all got newsbytes today you'll have seen that the old engine with the 'high metal debris on the mag chip' that was removed way back in 2008 is back in the airframe for testing over the winter.

I guess it's wait and see what the results are but at least something is being done with it again.  Fingers crossed, it might still be airworthy.

Surely the engineers know what engines have gone in/out and are spare? They seem to have gone conspicuously quiet on the matter though.

I know what you're saying but with it being a one of a kind aircraft then 'after flight' checklists should be done when the aircraft is off the runway and the pilot can concentrate a bit more.
Seems it's not uncommon to do it in the military when the aircraft is still rolling, but that doesn't mean it's good practise.

If something like this had happened to the Vulcan there would have been a massive furore, with claims of incompetent pilots being thrown around.

It seems it certainly didn't help doing the 'After landing checklist'  while still rolling down the runway.

I know accidents happen, but given he'd been flying other types recently and with it being the only airworthy example, a little more caution wouldn't have gone amiss.

I didn't see the first ever flight and I won't see the last ever flight :cry:  :cry:  :cry:.

My whole outlook on 558 has been enjoy it while you can, and I amazed we've actually come this far.

Given everything that has happened, it's been a minor miracle that a Vulcan was returned to flight and has managed to remain airworthy for a few years.

Obviously it's gutting to think about never seeing it fly again, but reading the documents I can understand the reasoning.

Another Herc just now, and I had my camera with me as I'm off back to Sussex this afternoon.  Too far away for a decent shot, but it appeared from somewhere in the Hurn direction, did a circuit of the Poole area, and went off back towards Hurn.  As I was struggling to get a shot of it, G-OMAF flew right over the window I was poking my camera out....

An Omani C-130 leaving Hurn was posted on FC earlier. Could that be the one?

Topsy ;
Actually.......both !!
Yes , I'm expecting the decision will be that 2013 will be the final season ; No , I don't think Ve3 will happen { for the same reasons as others gave on the 'Ve3' topic elsewhere on this Forum }

As for speculating.......why not ??
Granted it won't make a blind bit of difference to what the Trust decide { since when have they listened to supporters' views !! } , but we are entitled to express our opinions here , even if it's just to let off steam.
Express away, but considering there's only three days from now until the statement I just don't see the point in really discussing it yet. Just how I feel, but of course you're free to speculate for the next couple of days.

I'm not particularly interested in Ve3 anyway so I have nothing to say on that subject other than I wont be funding it, but I am interested to hear about the future plans for 558 regarding remaining flight time.

Roll on Fridays newsletter.

I was actually responding to WCG and thought he was talking about the possible 2013 retirement, rather than Ve3.

Pointless speculating now when there's going to be an official statement on Friday.
