Engineering / Re: So that's it then?

So the aircraft can stay in hangar 1 till August. Maybe longer - maybe not. Good. Glad we cleared up that confusion :D. Either way it does appear all the other gear will be moved... (if my newsletter cryptography skills are up to scratch ;) ). So once those magic containers materialise -
"Who's going to move all the spares?" Good question. There are lots of big, heavy yet fragile items to be moved. Do I detect the whiff of another appeal in the air? 'Doncaster spares lift' anyone? A chance to recall the heady days of 1948-49? ;). Or will the teams of new Vulcan volunteers find the last part of their qualification course is actually moving lots of items (misc) from a to b? ::)

P.S How long has Donald Trump had an emoji?   O:-)

Thanks Sam, that helps and hopefully removes some confusion. And "Bingo!" I've now found it.

The line drawing at the bottom. For orientation the "interim" hangar would be linked to the stub of taxiway to the left of 558...

(Thanks Andy!)

I've borrowed Andy's artwork (hope that's ok?) to show (orange) what I thought was the land proposed for the Etna site in relation to the site of the interim hangar (yellow). Cannot find anything definitive in print but I'm sure I've seen it somewhere! Also that as stated elsewhere it currently appears to be outside the airfield boundary...

I don't really care....

They have been pissing me off for the last six years with all their negativity.  There have been many occasions when I've wondered why I'm bothering with this when a group of "aviation enthusiasts" so obviously hate what it is I'm doing (or maybe they just hate the fact that I make a living out of it)  I know a lot of the rest of the team feel the same way too.

One would hope exciting news of a project to restore a significant classic jet to flight would be welcome amongst those who purport to be proper aviation enthusiasts. That it produces the same tired old bile and vitriol tells us all we need to know about these sad and pathetic keyboard warriors. VTTST actively doing real aviation work helped funded by those who wish to fund it (shock!)- versus those who are incapable and unwilling to reach and aspire to anything beyond a keyboard… They don’t love us. We shouldn’t care. Same as it’s always been. I'll continue putting my money behind a project and a team who actually believe in achieving things. My money, my choice so the forum failures can go “click” themselves. VTTST? Crack on boys…

And a wheelie at the controls? Yeah right

To be fair to Channel 4 it does say 'try'. Maybe it wasn't in 558... ;)

Here is a shot of the capacitance bands rolled up and bagged. When unfurled the strips are attached vertically inside the tank. Contact with the fuel produces the varying electrical signals used to determine fuel level...  :)

Aviation Waffle / Re: Vulcan Crew Ladder - In or Out?
« on: September 05, 2015, 09:49:12 PM »
558 carries a second set of door ladders stowed in the bomb aimers area. So really it makes no difference as to whether she is returning home or on a "fly away" - steps are always available  :). The set on the door are usually removed (at the AEO's discretion) so the back seater's "slide" is available at all times if required...

Guessing that is KR with the white 'bone dome'

Surely due to his previous position with the Reds, it would be Bill? i.e. "4 years as Wing Commander RAF Aerobatic Team - The Red Arrows"

Yep, Bill wears the white helmet with Red Arrow and appropriately enough the "11" on the rear of it as team boss. I understand Saturday Bill flew the formation with his former charges and Kev the solo part. With suitably stunning results from both.  :D

MaPS collected £2,100 in donations during the day and I am delighted to announce that the MaPS committee immediately agreed to pass on 50% of the total collected to Vulcan to the Sky Trust to support their activities during this final flying season for the only remaining airworthy Vulcan in the world. A payment has already been made to VTTST of £1,050. MaPS committee and volunteers are very grateful to everyone who donated money yesterday!

Charles Brimson
Chairman – 655MaPS

That is a very generous gesture from one Vulcan team to another. I hope it receives the thanks it deserves... Thank you MaPS!

Hi Paul and welcome to the club. Sorry to hear about your struggle to get here but it is worth it. Now you have made it this far I hope you stay. I cannot say why your enquiries have not been answered properly but hopefully those who look after such things will read your post and take note. The bottom line is it's 558's final year in the air and she needs all the support she can get. We all want to see the aircraft in the air as much as possible. So thanks for your support and I for one hope it continues.

This forum is full of knowledgeable folk - at least when it comes to matters Vulcan ;-). 558's own engineers are here too (655's make appearances as well). If you have questions about 558 or Vulcans in general then please post and I'm sure you will receive a quick reply.
