so if Soteria are already operating 4 of the 12 centres why aren't we hearing of this happening on a regular basis? I assume they have a strict level of service to meet.

If they were that likely to refuse requests would they call them selves Soditeria?

Almost certainly as they are about 65% owned by the government - before you say it, hardly privatisation in that case

Don't know whether it's just the Military being anti- , but I do recall an interview a couple of months ago when some senior SAR bod was saying that the problem with using civi helo crews is that they may not conduct as many training exercises or general flight training as the Military / HMCG crews do { although I'd have thought quite a few would be ex-Military anyway }

I do not understand the english.....my control centre is in Croatia......what i cannot work out, the name is a mixture of being very wet and an area of soverign land...why  can't we    call it British Air Sea & Rescue Service...being a little cynical i would like to know who is behind this company..perhaps a call to Companies House

Soteria is the Greek goddess of safety, deliverance and preservation from harm;a mission statement that fits well with the role of delivering a successful SAR service

As they are already operating 4 of the 12 bases in the UK I would expect them to have proved their ability to meet the criteria of this contract. As clive said they will probably be recruiting ex military anyway (their website careers section is already touting for new employees) so may be a ready made niche for osme service personnel coming to the end of their RAF service.

Asfor being Croatian etc etc , just because they arent called British Maritime Rescue Services or something similar it  doesnt mean they are foreign owned

Andy..the original statement said and i quote..it was " a foreign consortiuim" so you draw your own conclusion's whether it is foreign owned or not.......it is great british staff are being employed but i am just cynical about WHY and do not be fooled that it more cost effective......

It's bad enough that the AA seem to think they are ahead of the coastguard as far as emergency services are concerned!

I believe  this Consortiuim is based in Vancover, Canada, they are saying they have various  bases around the UK but they are not saying where............I wonder what the deal is,  Is the goverment giving  the infrastructure to the consortiuim...like the privatisation of the railway's  ....so the infracstructure becomes an asset to the company ie old military bases near the coast......also  Sikorsky   are part of the consortiuim so we should not see any British Aircraft  order's from the deal .....The last time we had a so called updating of the Coast Guard Services it cost lives as the local knowledge was lost......I believe there is a volunteer group called Coast Watch that fill's the gap because of the previous updating.....Also they state on there webb site that the company partner Thales are large  in the field of training MOD pilots in fixed wing and rotary aircraft...I thought our military trained there own, do we have  private contractor's training military air crew..........

Dont worry about the language issues.

Irrespective of the agreement for the Olympics I.E French being the predominant langauge for announcements.  The international language of the sea is English.  Chinese pilots boarding and Arabic tanker with a Russian Captain always converse in English. Also air traffic instructions are issued in english except when over flying France. hence the mid air collision a few years ago.
