Most of the gear is now packed away (though we still don't know where we will be sending it to)

Should be getting in touch with those who have pm'd on Monday once we have an idea what we are doing.

Many thanks to William, Pete and Bill who came over to Lyenham yesterday to help us out with a bit of cleaning and also packed away the tech library for us.

They all worked their socks off and we now have a very shiny pair of bomb bay doors (and a very empty tech library)

Hope to get a bit more help in next week to put a bit more of a shine on the jet.

If I had been really switched on I would have had a few pictures of the guys in action, but I wasn't :(

I'll wait for Pete to post his pictures. Along with Pete and Bill I too had a brilliant day,  took me back many years!
I emailed details to an old colleague in the states, and he replied,

"Who would have believed that you had volunteered to “bull up” a Vulcan.
If I had asked you to do that 45 years ago there would have been all kind of excuses
and talk of skiving off!!"

Huh!

Regards to everyone,

William

William, It was good working with you this week, I enjoyed looking through the tech library while packing it and listening to both Sam and your experiances.

Here's another image showing the colour of the doors before we started and remind Sam and the team we will be checking at and air show near you so make sure you wear your slippers in the bomb bay from here on to avoid dirty foot prints :D

This week a number of willing club member volunteers were given the opportunity to get on top of the airframe and clean the oxidation from the 20 year old paint work using Wadpol.

It was hard on the knee's but some pad's sorted that for day two but very rewarding when you see the difference it makes.

We were all attached to the airframe via the Wingrip suction cup system that was easily moved as you go.

It was amazing how the paint surface varied across the different areas, The newly painted repair areas were a joy to polish but some areas were like trying to put a shine on 800 grade wet and dry!

some more images.

I will make sure they are good and clean next week!

Thank you very much to Richard, William, Nick, Dave, Pete, Bill, Derek, Dave and Arthur for all your hard work this week, especially Richard who pretty well did the whole fuselage single handed.  I guess you now all understand the wisdom of the phrase "never volunteer for anything"

The boys did a great job and I hope that you will all be able to enjoy the fruits of their labours.

I only took a few shots of the boys at work as my little camera has cried enough so I'll let the boys post the evidence.

By the way there is still a bit more work to be done so if any one feels like breaking the golden rule feel free to get in touch.

Blood, Sweat and Tears !! helped with copious amounts of Wad-Pol.

Sam says "never volunteer for anything" but I'd do it again, no hesitation.
