To be pedantic, training has started on the simulator for the new Nimrod...

I thought that the Daily Wail said the MRA4 project was scrapped?

They were hard at work building them last year at Woodford when we went on the Club Visit to the Avro Heritage Centre.

Wasn't it the RAF offering to not have them to save money :(  :(  Hoping other SQN's might be saved, what they would do with the ones completed is anyones guess, not an E-bay item is it ;)  ;)

I dunno, I've bought three Nimrods on eBay.  Not quite full size, admittedly.... lol

Indeed that is the story.  The Daily Mail is quite proficient at turning "such and such may be axed to save money" stories into "Government to Definitely 100% Axe such and such".

Of course it could be worse, the Daily Express would turn them into "Government Axes such and such To Pay For Diana Murder Cover Up"

Well, let's face it, the Express only has two stories, which is one more than the Daill Mail's one about something random giving you cancer (or helping prevent it).

Is the Nimrod going to undergo trials at Boscombe Down, or has that happened already? I go there now & then and would love to see it.

As much as I'm glad that the Nimrod/Comet shape is still in the air, I think really, it is too expensive in this post-cold war era to develop/operate the MR4, when we could have had reconditioned Orions.

Training of Nimrod crews does seem to be getting more intense. The company I work for provides the ASW capability for the MPA role of the aircraft and we've just be retraining the trainers from Kinloss. ;)
