Well - @ £9 mill p.a. - I would see them as a ten plane  bargain. Thinking -for example - of the £2mill p.a. it costs us to keep a single XH558 flying.
Signed -- clueless (:-(

2 Merlins just passed over my house, quite low because of the murky weather here near Pompey at the moment. Surprised how loud they were, heading towards either ex RNAY Fleetlands or the dockyard I guess. I think 1 came back about 10 mins later, unfortunately after I'd picked myself up off of the floor after tripping over the dog rushing out to see what it was...the murk had hidden the perpetrator of the noise!

Variable Stability Learjet N102VS around today at Hurn.. Apparently training Indian Airforce all week. Surprisingly noisy! Red and white colour scheme is hard to miss.

Loads of Merlins and Sea Kings about over last few days too. Getting quite used to them now - not so many Chinooks though ..

Helicopter fest in Gloucester today.
Chinook heading North directly over the city at 14:10
Two Merlins in file heading North just to the East of the city
Apache, fully armed up by the look of it, right over out house and very low at 16:15.

I enjoyed the Chinook and Merlins but the Apache took me by surprise. luckily I was outside trying to figure out why my bike won't start!!

Lucky you weren't in the outhouse at the time otherwise you wouldn't have seen it.

Sea Vixen did a fast taxi run at Hurn today. Nice and noisy and great to see it won't be long until she's back in the air.

Army Gazelle ZA766 was hovering high overhead yesterday. No idea what they were up to?

This afternoon passing over at about 7000' G-TDSA Cessna ; interesting this as the flight track on flightradar24 was nuts, but  check out the aircraft.... try this
http://www.flightradar24.com/2014-04-12/15:05/12x/51.43,-0.62/10
at 1507 there is an odd shaped silhouette passing SW across Heathrow, passing Staines, Chertsey and Woking and it lands at Farnborough at 1518. Lock on to it and see it's track.

That will be an errr.. 'sightseeing' trip by people who are interested in arrivals.. I'm sure they must get dizzy  ;D

Fr24 now has MLAT support so it shows up quite a lot of stuff that doesn't broadcast ads-b.. Eg you can see the Cobham Falcons when they are above about 4k feet..
