VC-10 departing Manchester last night around 7pm ,flew past the beer garden at the Plough and Flail,I nearly choked on me pint. Great noise! Also not long after, I'm sure I saw a DC-3 ,high-level north south.

What looked suspiciously like the Lancaster has just flown past my office heading for Boscombe (not Boscombe Down!!).  Appeared to have other BBMF planes with it....

My brother is on holiday in the Bournmouth  at the moment.  He texted me at the same time as you posted this to say he'd had the Lanc and a Spit overhead.  He also saw the Reds on their way into Hurn, and when they got back to where they are staying (not sure where exactly, but he describes it as 'a stone's throw away'), he texted me again to say there was the distinct smell of jet fumes in the air!

Does anyone know what a VC10 might be doing at a civilian airport?  My parents were in one of the hotels overlooking one of Heathrow's runways over New Year, and saw a VC10 take off from there.  In fact, it was my Mum, who has no interest in aircraft at all who spotted it ("Ooh, that one's different!") and my Dad who identified it.

I guess being in Bournemouth I'll get told off for saying today I've seen the Dutch F16 take off, part of the display and landing, plus Tucano, several private jets, the Breitling wing walkers, a couple of RyanAir planes and some funny triangular thing...?

Probably an Ilyushin Il-62.

Possible I suppose...if any Il-62s wear the RAF grey livery and makings!  Definitely an RAF VC10 according to my Dad!

If it was during the holiday period it could have been dropping off a Medivac or a Compassionate... Or more prosaic a Wx or Fuel divert.

Fair comment...

Mind you, had it been an Il-62 in a typical airline livery (white!) I doubt my Mum would have commented.  Mind you, I should imagine the noise level would have been different from most modern airliners.  If they could have heard it through the triple glazed windows that is!
