MD11 on way to Stansted
« Reply #2041 on: February 05, 2014, 10:46:54 AM »
This is a rare beastie for me, McDonnell Douglas MD11 of Martinair Cargo inbound to Stansted three minutes (1000) ago at 16000 feet. Not seen one for years. (passing over Heathrow area) From Aguadilla, Peurto Rico.

29 Sqn Typhoon did a missed approach into Little John/ Maid Marion/ Friar Tuck international this morning (must have given the poor Easyjet crew who have been pounding the circuit for over a week now something different to think about.)

Spotted a Tornado doing something similar on Monday just as I got here - but I forgot to post!
I'll never give up on the dream!

Flights at Heathrow generally start around 0500, so imagine my delight when a BA 380 came over my place on a "go round" at 0435; having struggled already had a fitful sleep all night.

Then again, another "go round" at about 0545, when I still hadn't intended being awake.

When I'm awake it's interesting to get these.

ZZ172 dropped in at Hurn this evening, thanks to Bryan for the heads-up.  Several forum member present, and very cold when she eventually turned up a but late, just as the light was fading.  Then someone chose the wrong parking space, and had to do the C17 party trick of reversing.  From one side of the airfield to the other... lol

Not actually spotted but lots of very loud noise this afternoon in the Gloucester/Cheltenham/Cotswolds region. Clear blue skies but couldn't see anything so I suspect it might have been stuff going off from Fairford.

Anyone see anything, any idea what they were. Probably 3 or 4 times I heard it/them.

Now that the skies are clearing spotted a C17 yesterday at 1300'ish to the East of Gloucester, probably passing over Cheltenham, and today a C130 late morning.

And another one today, 15:00, L1011 Tristar banking from Northerly heading to North Eastern going very slow, not too low, so guess it was banking around to head for Brize Norton.

Wokka currently hammering around Poole Bay out to sea - RFA Lyme Bay anchored out there so no doubt some Hamworthy teams doing some night exercises  8)

RFA Mounts Bay and RFA Lyme Bay have been around for the last week or so..

Belated catchup:

Two Tornados also around in the last week - photographing the coast apparently due the recent weather and landslips..

Falcons have been very active as well - even flying on Sundays?

Not much over South Shields, apart from the North East Air Ambulance and Police Chopper. I din't think it was that rough here  :-\ Still swivel my eyes skywards every time a plane comes in ear shot, been out 22 years now the same as I served it never leaves me though.

I know what you mean Len, it's the same with me and it doesn't matter whether it's a little cessna, Vulcan or 747, the eyes go look skywards.
It's also the same for me with the sea, I look at waves and always think of S.Shields where I was born and grew up, until I was 16 and joined the RAF (1965). Still miss it.
