Probably holding for LBIA until weather cleared. I've seen a few jets do it before in the area.

Don't think it would be holding, Tim, as we don't get anything stacking around plus we're too far from LBA ;)
The norm in this area is military jets and helicopters now and again.

If one of the wizzy things from the flying school at Full Sutton had been flying then they were about the same height - it was just SO low!

Can't find diddlysquat out and I'm more than curious!!!

About a year ago I tracked 3 737s doing odd circuits between here, York & Wetherby at about the same height. They were holding while a storm cleared at LBIA.  Seemed extremely strange to see them there out of the window, when normally all I see is pokey little egg-beaters.  One eventually gave up and went to Robin Hood.

Why didn't you use Flight Radar 24 to find out what it was or are you still in "Holiday Mode"  :))

Solved it!!! It was ZZ332 Voyager from Brize on it's way to Donny!
Just tracked it on Planefinder on 7th October, interesting route circling near the Isle of Man.
No idea why it was under the cloud near my house................................ :o

Ha, ha - was it lost then?

I guess Elvinton and Donnie must look pretty similar (well similar amounts of traffic in the pattern anyway)

Spotted a RAF HERC. at Donnie on Saturday.

The trouble with this lovely job is that I'm inside all through the winter so I don't notice what is in the circuit!

For instance the An 126 that was here departed and I didn't even notice!
I'll never give up on the dream!

There was a dark coloured Herc doing laps of Poole bay for the second day running today, and also a red and white one belonging to some oil spill company dropped in at Hurn.  I presume it is used to locate and/or disperse oil spills rather than create them.....

Chinook popping in and out of the low cloud base over Abbeymead, Gloucester, at 1625 this afternoon. Tried to get a photo but he kept disappearing into the cloud.

Watched the Chinook yesterday - seemed to be doing circuits. Merlin was low over Cheltenham this morning as well. :-)

Yes, the Merlins often circle around and around. I think they must be security flights over Imjin and GCHQ. Saw a Merlin today but I don't always post because I forget what time I saw it by the time I get onto my laptop!!!
It was a bit lower than yesterdays, and faster.
