Any chance of the Vulcan at Southport
« on: August 17, 2010, 01:32:16 AM »
Any chance the Vulcan might grace the sky's over the Southport show again this year as us up north don't get many chances to see her and once a year at Waddington is never enough

She is flying that day at Filton so we can only hope ...
Last year she only did Sunday and included a flypast Woodford, Manchester & Barton on the way.
It would also allow us to advertise the dinner at Manchester with Martin speaking on Oct 15th as well.

A memorable day !   I do hope we get to see her in this part of the world again. Not many aircraft get to bring an International airport to a stand still  :D

Is Southport North of the Watford Gap  ?

If so,only when hell freezes over

PS.I hope that last statement is not true but appearances "Oop North" are a bit thin on the ground

And I thought when we got Lottery funding it was to keep the Vulcan for the NATION, not the numpty`s?

I think in the interests of racial  and regional harmony ,the phrase "Numpty" should be replaced with the less offensive term "Southern Softie"

Get it right - it's either 'Southern Pansy' or 'Northern Monkey'.

I know the UK is in a bad way but unless someone turned it physically upside down while I've been here LEUCHARS  is still in Scotland and  that is way north of the Watford Gap

:!: N.B. 558 appearances have always depended on airshow organisers choosing to booking the aircraft  :!:

Well said, and as I said to a member, a few weeks ago, who was not going to renew his membership unless '558 came to Southport... it's not the Trusts and certainly not the club's, fault, that Southports organisers, and I'm assuming here,  have not booked it to appear.... so go screw their ear about it 'cos the Trust can't do B****R All about it...... by the way he did renew his membership in the end....

Blimey Zero One, I dont think anybody here is atributing blame to anybody, we are just indulging in a spot of wishful thinking thats all. I think we are all well aware that its down to the organizers to book 'the old girl', if they ar'nt then its downto lack off finances, which is a shame for everybody, general public and fans alike.

Bournemouth ran a patron scheme to raise money for 558 which was very last minute and driven to some extent by public pressure................... 558 was reguarly in Echo in run up months to airshow.

Perhaps other shows should try something similar

Oh careful, we're on contentious ground here. I made a similar Watford Gap comment on the old forum and was subsequently panned for the stupidity of my post. Fortunately Johnjosh sprang to my defence. Good to be back by the way, I don't know, you go away for a bit of a holiday to find out everone's bogged off when you get back. It cannot be denied however that appearances up North are somewhat thin on the ground this year. And yes before somebody gets on my case we understand why but it just doesn't seem right. After all she was built up here!!!
