We recived official confirmation from the wheels at the top of the MOD yesterday that RAF Lyneham would be delighted to host the Vulcan for yet another Winter Servicing period.  So after todays flight, we will be landing at Lyneham and putting the aircraft in the hangar sometime next week.

That is comforting news - thanks Oby'un

So will the hangar have to be CAA approved once again, or is the infrastructure still in place from last year, meaning essentially you can move in straight away (funding permitting of course)?

Excellent news.

My newly married niece will keep an eye on her whilst she awaits the return of her Husband from Afghanistan (They are both in the RAF)

IMO from an access point of view it's a shame that we're stuck on an active MOD base for another Winter. Would have been great to be on a civilian airfield, but I guess we're saving the cost of another hangar audit from Marshalls / CAA.

I sincerely hope aircraft visits are established soon and can run throughout the Winter.

Visits would be great where do I sign up? Nice to know she will be safe  and warm. How much will it cost and do they boot her out if we are broke?

Don't know the cost, but I doubt it'll even get near a hangar if we're broke at the end of Oct.

Well done Lyneham.

Well said Phill especially as many of the Base personnel are also wondering about their futures.

Lyneham will close before the end of 2012 ( how much before the end of 2012 depends on how quickly the MOD scrap the C130Ks )and 'most' of the staff will then relocate to Brize.

Let's hope XH558 isn't grounded this winter/next year as even fast taxying , in front of the general public, will surely not be allowed there. I wonder if future hangar visits might also include 'us' witnessing anti-det runs??

BTW didn't Brize want 558 over the winter then? Or is there just too much work still being carried out there?

Anyway thanks to Lyneham for giving her a home and hopefully we will be able to visit her over the winter.

Ian

The only storage for 558 at Brize would be Base hanger over winter but Base hanger is forever full and i dont think could afford to have a bay out of use for that long. They could ask the AirTanker lot for some space in there new hanger!
