Final Home revisited
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:28:09 PM »
Seeing as though the flying season for this year is nearly over, I would like to ask a question which has been asked many times before ;)

Is there any news of 558`s new home :?:  :?:  :?:  :?:

Surely this is a very important issue, and if a new home has been designated, then why have we not been informed, or at least kept up to date  :o

My choice for 558 would have to be an ex Vulcan base, and seeing as though two of them are operational which means 558 would not be available to the public, the only choice would logically be Robin Hood Airport

Do you mean final home or base while she flies?  As stated on old forum the hangar at Robin Hood that was widely speculated as a possibility is now occupied by Customs and Excise so unlikely.

Finding a 7 days a week active runway, with full fire cover etc, the correct length, with good public access and the potential for a visitors centre, education centre and a shop was never going to be an easy task. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

I asked about the winter home in this thread http://www.vulcantothesky.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=397 and Oberon mentioned that negotiations were underway as we speak.

I guess once they know, we'll know.

Off topic, but that would explain why my Dad saw an AWACS climbing with it's u/c retracting whilst visiting friends in Ely recently.

AWACs, KC-135s, RC-135s, C-130s, and C-117s are a regular sight over my house with occasional visits from 747s and C-5s. If I go down the road I get to see the residents of Lakenheath, which was interesting when the Raptors were there!

It would be great if our lady could use Mildenhall.

I could get a great shot of her over the Catherdral.

Forget the North and South, I think the West is much more sensible   . Filton is the only feasable option  ;)  Now all we need to do, is blag ourselves some space in the new Concorde hangar, before they finish the design of it. Make it big enough for 2 deltas and the rest of the Bristol Aero Collection, job done. And only 1 mile off the M5.

Come on, you know it makes sense

OK, National Collection I hear you all say, make it Wroughton (Science Museum) and try and get some funding to have the place open for visitors at some point.   :o
