Vulcan Pics taken from Concorde...
« on: October 08, 2012, 04:02:03 PM »
While at the MG 50th at Blenhiem palace we chatted to a guy who had taken some pictures of XH558 along side concorde....

his e-mail reads....

Here are 3 pics taken from Concorde G-BOAB on 23rd June 1991.  The afternoon was supposed to have seen the two British deltas formate in the vicinity of Stanstead, be filmed, then present themselves over an event taking place at North Weald.  The appalling weather put a stop to that, but thanks to the duty radar controller the 2 principals sort of got together.

Pics. 006 and 008 were quick snapshots taken through the flight deck side window LH, by myself; I was impeded by a chap with a pro, video camera - you can see the shape in the foreground, the 2 dots in 006 are window heat temperature sensors.  I don't know who was filming.  007 is framed by a cabin window.

These were taken in the days when cameras were loaded with film:  if you come across the reciprocal picture of us taken by the Vulcan crew, I wouldn't mind a copy.

Regards,    David Macdonald   (Flight Engineer).

We would like to know who was flying XH558 on that particular day and if any of the Vulcan crew took any photographs.
Keeping the fingers crossed !!
Regards, Graeme.

It was DT, Co - Stu Walker, crew Al Slack, Graham O'Connor and Ken Denman. DT certainly didn't get photos to busy flying, not sure if the rear crew would have.

Edit - My error  [must be my age!!!] it should read Tim Walker.

Intriguing that the airbrakes were deployed. But I suspect that AB was the one having to keep a steady speed so 558 used her brakes to adjust speed. Concorde hasn't got any air brakes.

PS She (AB) landed at Heathrow 20 minutes early at 13:25 rather than 13:45. Flight number was BAW9001C

I had the privilege in flying on Concorde G-BOAB in December 1999. I had Christmas Dinner on the aircraft with ALL the trimmings.
We flew supersonically over the Bay Of Biscay.
I will never forget that experience .
What has happened to G-BOAB is a disgrace.

Lets keep XH558 flying for a couple of  more years

Have you still got Dave Macdonalds email address ? I'd be interested to see what AB was doing the day before this flight as well. I've got a pet hobby of building up a database of all the British Concordes flights.
AB did out and back from Heathrow on the Saturday as well. I don't think it was for Woodford Airshow which was on the day before (incredible lineup by the way with a rather good video of XH558 takeoff on Youtube).

The only time a Concorde ever flew at Woodford airshow was in (I think) 1971. I was 6, and can remember it quite vividly. I was in the back garden of my parents house, which backed onto the airfield. Concorde did a fly-by. The weather was not good, and I think it just made one pass?

I can remember the whole area was gridlocked with people trying to get to see the Concorde.
