Flt Lt Tony Burton
« on: July 30, 2013, 10:35:46 PM »
My father was Tony Burton, he was Vulcan crew during the 60's and 70's as both AEO and then Pilot. He died a few years ago and in his last few months he told me a lot about his time in the RAF.

If any one has any stories about my Dad I would love to hear from you, and I promise to edit them before passing anything on to my Mum!

I have also set up and e-petition recently as a way of honouring him, I realise that this has been tried before, but I thought it was worth doing anyway:

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/51147
"We should honour the service personnel who protected the UK during the Cold War"

Hope to hear from you

John Burton

Welcome!

I've moved this topic to the Vulcan Air Crew section where it will be more prominent.

I remember the name but haven't had a chance to check my logbook yet. Which squadrons?
I have signed the petition & sent it to the people I know who deserve one. Good luck.

During my service (1965 - 1978) the only place you got a medal for was Northern Ireland as you quite rightly say it was cold war period.
Yes, it was exciting at times, very tense and even a little scary at times, but I'm not sure I want recognition for it. On the other hand, I was ground communications, speaking to the V-Force through UHF/VHF and CW (morse), I may very well have communicated with your father during my 2 years at HQ Bomber Command in 1966 to 1968.
The people, like your Father, were more at the sharp end than my self and I just consider I was doing my job.

Good luck with the petition though, I will sign it in support of your Father's memory and the other brave aircrew, submariners etc.
