Soldier 'I' - SAS
« on: October 16, 2013, 08:31:19 PM »
Had an interesting trip to Harrogate on Saturday 12th and return on Sunday 13 October. My passenger was Pete Winner, ex-SAS bloke who took part in the Iranian Embassy siege, in fact he told me he'd been in the embassy 2 days prior to the raid to identify the location of the hostages and terrorists.
He was also a member of the 22 SAS 9 man team that held off around 300 communist insurgents in the Dhofar area known as 'The Battle of Mhirbat'.
Pete was our guest after dinner speaker at the 3rd annual reunion of the RAF Masirah and RAF Salalah Oman RAF Veterans Association.

I bought his book 'Soldier I', was hoping he'd give me a copy as I'd driven him the 500 mile round trip from Gloucester - Hereford - Harrogate - Hereford - Gloucester but when I asked him in the morning he said "Yes, I've got 4 left, they are £9.00 each"! Well, I haven't read it yet but I expect it will be worth it  ;D
