Baby558 (at nine years old) suggested that Wellesborne would be a great location - and why push for an airshow? - this recent event at Coventry was a "Fly-in" not requiring the permits or fire cover that an airshow needs and look at the attendance.
If you've ever been to a RAF photoshoot then you'll know how well subscribed they are.
One would not need the expertise (hmm) of the an airshow commentator, and Coventry fly-in organizers might find it interesting.

I think that Wellsbourne could be a good venue 2 vulcans to be seen, that could be good for XH558 and XM605, with XM605 doing a fast taxi run while XH558 flies above her, fantastic photo opportunity

I think you mean XM655 ?? 605 is in the USA.

Is the runway at Wellesbourne long enough for 558 to get out again afterwards?

In short ( ;) ), No!

There is a long story about the CAA refusing to allow Roy Jacobsen (who originally bought '655) to operate his Vulcan from so short a runway.

I discussed something along these lines with the Verdon-Roe family at Goodwood Revival in 2009. They are already considering the idea of bringing together a selection of airworthy AV Roe examples at Woodford to mark its closure. Included in the line up for starters were the Shuttleworth's Triplane replica, PA474 and '558...

Much planning (and fundraising) to be done before then!

That is true but you have to start planning an event like that...this year not to wait to next year...   :)

Woodford's closure is a few years away - hence my comment. It's not a proposal for now, but one to be considered a way down the road once we're through this challenge.

How does work is there a wish list somewhere that you look at if  the climate is right....my point  was that these events do normally take  a long time to plan because of the complexity of a large event....Mike

Just a note of caution....The Great Warbirds Airshow was cancelled after a couple of years of very bad weather, & Sally-B actually lost money as a result. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that it's not guaranteed to make us money.

If the MRA4 is canned then Woodford will close pretty quickly. I reckon it is one of the targets in the cuts that are 2 weeks away.

I see there are quite a few supporters of this idea. Could we perhaps have the view of the Management Committee on this and other fund raising activities. Some feedback to show that the ideas are being considered and/or rejected would be appreciated. Perhaps the committe minutes are published somewhere and I have not found them on line?

They are considering it! This is taken from the news letter dated 1 October

Maybe (just maybe) one of these might be a dedicated airshow – but we’ve learned the hard way that regulations and costs could make that a promise we can’t keep – we will do out best though.

I think that we need to concentrate our efforts on the next three weeks to enable 558 to survive through to 2011 before any thoughts of private airshows are considered 1

If I were to send a cheque for the October Appeal, would it be OK to send it by ordinary post, or by recorded delivery to make sure it arrived?  Thank you in advance.
