RAF Upwood air show 1960-61 anyone know of this
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:58:58 PM »
The first time I ever saw a Vulcan was as a young lad of 15 or 16 and it was at an Air Show at RAF Upwood Cambridgeshire (I am fairly sure it was Upwood and not Wyton).  Both were about 14 miles from my home at Stilton.  It was the first Air Show I had been to and as I was cycling down the access road to the base a beautiful huge white delta winged jet came roaring in to land.  I was gutted to have partly missed its arrival but at least I did see it in flight and have never forgotten it.
I have searched and can find no information on an Air Show at RAF Upwood.  Has anyone any information.
I did have my trusty brownie with me and I have a few dodgy black and white photos of some of the planes on static display one of which was a Vickers Valiant but the Vulcan was not accessible, presumably as it was on the flight side.
