AEO's - A-L Switch?
« on: December 13, 2014, 11:18:34 PM »
Got a switch identification problem, can't even find it in the B2 Aircrew Manual.
Any ideas what this switch (on the right A to L) is for?

I've had a few replies to this but they all seem to have disappeared!

Hi Dave.

A lot of stuff that was posted over the weekend seems to have been deleted (I suspect the mods have had to have a bit of a clean up following a visit by some Russian spammers)

The box is a control unit, type 705 (ARI 18011)

B2 manual (AP 101B-1902-1A, cover1, section 1, chap 2, fig 6, item 33)

You've probably got confused as the key for the illustration is on the previous page!

Delete will be along soon with his more detailed explanation which was far more enlightening than mine!

I think he said it was the channel selector for the instrument landing system.

I can't check as 558 does not have that system fitted any more.
I'll never give up on the dream!

Yep

A.R.I. 18011 - Control unit 705 - I.L.S. Channel selector switch

This controller provides the selection of the of the correct frequency crystals for the glide path and localizer receivers

Additional equipment for the I.L.S. system is fitted below the AEO's floor, this consists of the Localizer and Glide Path receivers, mounted in a tray side by side, and Voltage regulator (As you are entering the aircraft, these can be seen on the Left hand side below the AEO's floor)

A junction box is mounted below the Pilot's floor on the Port side on the Radar crate

There is a power switch on P1's console as well as a tone select switch for the IC feed

There were 3 antennas associated with this equipment - The marker antenna Starboard wing root, Localizer Antenna Port wing tip and Glide path Antenna Starboard wing tip.

Thanks very much Sam and Deeleyt, that is a terrific explanation and I'm going to print it in case I forget what it's for never mind the detail!!
Have a great Christmas.

You would, of course, be very welcome.
If you are free on 01 January we are opening from 10-4. I'm doing 10-1.
Hope you have a great Christmas too, it was creeping up but it now seems to have jumped onto a skateboard!!!
