LLA Day
« on: October 04, 2015, 06:18:38 PM »
558 made an appearance at RAF Coningsby today for the Lincs Lancs Association day. She made 2 passes then returned with 7 Spitfires and 2 Hurricanes in Battle formation.

Just brilliant.

I was there Pam,hundreds of people and cars with absolutely no traffic issues !!,a brilliant afternoon but not publicised by the Trust ! why ?
If that is to be the last time I see 558 then I couldn't wish for a better send off. :)

I would imagine it's because it wasn't the Trust news to make public.

Were you inside or outside the wire Mike? I thought it was a bit thin on the ground inside and wondered if it was because the Lanc wasn't flying, if so I wonder how many are kicking themselves now for not going.

I agree the only thing better than seeing her fly today would be a flight over my house but that won't happen ever again.

Normally I stay well away from Coningsby for LLA day, I don't like to add to the traffic. But as a last minute decision we went today.

So glad we did, it was just wonderful!

I have to say, I was very impressed with the parking where I was (the old frying pan dispersal behind the viewing area). And those parked on the road were not an issue that I could see.

To be honest I'm glad it wasn't more publicised, there was no more room where we were and we'd been there a good hour before the Dakota took off.

Need to have a look at the state of my photos, but we were smack bang in the middle of the display  ;D ;D

So far that's the only one I've uploaded anywhere.

I was outside Pam,i had a tip off that 558 would be making an appearance so took the opportunity to relieve the "pressure" on the OBR as requested by the Trust  :)

Pam is correct in saying it was not our place to publicise the meeting, else it might not have even happened!

As it was, the map released at 11.15am showed XH558 over Coningsby a good three hours before it happened. Many obviously missed the clues, but particularly the fact the draw of announcing this spectacle too early would just have moved one problem to another location.
