18th October 2007 - 8yrs ago today
« on: October 18, 2015, 12:49:41 PM »
I remember it vividly. I remember the ground crew on tenter hooks, I remember the frantic checking of weather by the aircrew. I remember the moment she thundered down the runway and the moment she lifted off - watching her circle with undercarriage down.

THANK YOU ALL who made it possible, too many to mention here but most of all I thank 558 supporters who kept the faith and dug deep when needed despite the many who said it couldn't be done and when it happened then said it was unsustainable.

Almost 13yrs of our life played second fiddle to 558 because she came first - constant meetings, late night phone calls, 60 -70 emails a day, research, rewriting of schedules etc, etc but you know what - it was worth it!

Once again our heart felt thank you.

Thank You to EVERYONE .. Admin, Crew, Ground Crew and Supporters for making this possible
Hard to believe how far we've come since that First Roll out with the Few Members we had then at the Start! (That was a chilly day too)

I too remember it well, very well. I was in Peru with my late partner and she was a little irritated that I was desperate for information as to the first flight, which was texted to me by my son. So chuffed then, chuffed now by what was achieved, and more than a little tearful that it is coming to an end for the airborne aspect.
I said "no more passwords" and look what happened!

I remember watching the web cam views in the hangar during the restoration, when she was literally in pieces ;D (who remembers the silver wheel covers..... ?)

The footage of her leaping into the air again 8 years ago was a wonderful feat of engineering - and a big poke in the eye of the nay sayers that said it would never happen.

We have been blessed with having a great team that have kept the faith and kept her flying to this day. Well done to the aircrew, the engineers, admin, unseen helpers, supporters and the general public for keeping the donations coming in throughout the years.

Vulcan never fails to impress....... when she lands and streams that chute for the final time, we will all be very sad that it is over.
She won't be gone - she will be just starting a new chapter of her life.

Thanks for your perseverance Pam during what must have been a nerve racking time  and of course to David who many of today's 558 followers will not even be aware of !
Without you both 558's journey may not have been possible.

Best Regards

Mike

Thank you Mike but I have to say it was a team effort. Yes DT played his part but so did many others. What mattered in the end was in happened - Barriers were broken and new milestones achieved,

Would I do it all again ..........

Oh YES!
