Courtesy of Sad Sam and the 'Old' forum, answering a question in 2009 about the oily vapour coming from the front of the engine nacelles...

Hi Bryan, that's a nice picture someone should be very pleased with themselves.

Those are the exhausts for the cooling air from the alternator csdu and an engine bleed which comes directly from the engine. Amongst other things.

The engine is a partial loss lubrication system, which means there is always going to be some oil vapour in the air.


This can be seen clearly in one of the photo competition images, coming from No2 engine.
