The Martian
« on: January 30, 2016, 11:13:07 PM »
I cannot normally concentrate on a film whilst on a flight but last week I made a point of searching for a film I could watch.

The Martian was such a film and I found it was good from the start; a difficult subject considering this matter takes years to occur and there are at least two bases, in fact five, "millions" of miles apart.

The scenery was stunning and I now know where it was filmed, and it wasn't Mars.

The botanical questions raised ally to what Major Tim Peake is asking kids to get involved in now.

Here is a trailer for the movie, but there are some spoilers in the second part "Science versus Cinema" though it is very interesting.

Not seen the movie yet - though it has been recommended to me by several people!

I have however read the book, and throughly enjoyed it - I can therefore totally recommend reading it!!  ;D

I've got a copy of the book now, but from what I've heard, it's hard to put down, so I need time to go for it.

Well there goes another two days of my life that I cannot get back - could not put the book down, and I had been warned.

A great read; having seen the film I thought that may have marred the enjoyment, but no. It is a very well put together story.
(if your mother is going to read it, there is a lot of use of the F word, but then "the guy is alone".

The book's also available unabridged as an audio book.  Great for those long car journeys, & I really enjoyed it.

That would be strange to have your "182nd Sol" interrupted by a traffic report.
