Poll on the future of Vulcan XH558
« on: October 22, 2010, 05:01:21 PM »
The latest newsletter is about to be published and includes a poll on the possible future of XH558.

You can enter from the link on the Home Page or by following this link: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/poll-on-f ... xh558.html

Results will be announced in next week's update, probably on Friday, with the result of the Trustee's meeting.
Not that it will have any bearing, but will be of public interest, non the less.

"Never before has one aircraft, needed or deserved the support of so many!"

Let's hope we can gather enough momentum as we enter the final week of fundraising.

All hands to those pumps!!!!

Blimey, now there's a choice.

I'd have to say flying abroad sadly, but I wouldn't be funding it!

Lol at third option though. Nice touch.  ;)

I would be happy to see her flying anywhere rather than taxying up and down a disused runway much like a pacing tiger in a zoo!

Isn't this a pointless poll?  We're told that if the operation folds due to lack of funds at the end of the month, 558 will never fly again.  So if someone else with lots of money comes along it's irrelevant.  Unless of course someone is trying to wind everyone up into pledging yet more money...  Personally, I think that nothing is unachievable and even if the worst happened this year there's still a hope that she'll fly again at some point until the fatigue life is exhausted.

I also thought that under the terms of the lottery funding, 558 couldn't be sold to a third party unless the grant was repaid in full?  I'm also firmly convinced that the idea of her being sold to a foreign collector and taken overseas is scaremongering and is about as likely as me flying her first display next year.  However, the more often you tell people scare stories, the more likely they are to believe it and give up all hope.

I'm not giving up hope, and a while after getting back from holiday at the end of next week, I'm going to be embarking on a lunatic sponsored event to try and raise some more money and awareness... assuming Mr Pudgy Knees hasn't given up on me.  Flipping work getting in the way and all that...

I think antiquary may be under the impression that 558`s fate has been decided,as this is not the first time we have faced this situation.......

Despite assurances from the powers that be, that 558 would never be wanting the begging bowl being passed around again..

I know 558 has been saved twice at the last moment, but can we honestly see this happening a third time..............

Yes, I can.  My slightly cynical nature tells me that there are people out there who may well be able to sort out the current financial crisis, but as with all people with money, they have it by being careful.  Therefore when the day of reckoning arrives, the minimum investment is required to meet the target.  No point in shelling out £400K if all us die-hard fanatics will chip in a hundred grand or so....

A couple of comments:-

1. This latest message wasn't really aimed solely at 'us' diehard, longer-term supporters (please remember that for every one of 'us' that reads those emails there are approx another four who are relatively new to all of this).  The message that 'lots x relatively little = flying Vulcan' is still taking some drumming in...

2. And it's not a scare-tactic (ie. making out something will happen when everyone secretly knows it won't).  The possibilities it describes are entirely real & with less than a week to run, it makes sense to bring that message home to those (not necessarily us here) who haven't quite got it yet.  Right now, I personally am making some tough decisions about how much we could put up if the campaign failed to reach its target (given what we've already committed as sponsorship for 2011).
