build a Vulcan week by week at news agents ???
« on: October 29, 2010, 11:51:30 AM »
I wish I could put this on the "Ways to  raise funding threads "..

At christmas time you start seeing adverst on the TV, WH Smiths and news agents  for model / collection projects such as "Build HSM Victory part 1 £1.99 usual price £5 etc etc " ... You basically get 1 piece of the project per week with a fact sheet on the the topic to go in a ring binder .."!!!!!.. And build the project over about a yaer. You also see these projects for DVD collections, cars and  ships  etc....

As anyone though of aproaching them to do a XH558 ????..... Could be an idea to make a few quid and get the plane on a TV advert  ....!!!!

I think one of the companies that does this sort of thing is :-

I believe an approach was made, but it also might upset our relationship with Airfix, so a bit sensitive as they have been very supportive, especially with this: http://www.vulcantotheskystore.co.uk/pr ... it_AIRFIX1
(Last few days to order in sale folks!!!). Most things have wider complications than just an original good idea in principle.

One to kick around again though, so into the melting pot if we get through the weekend OK.

Obviously, I'm not saying this about any company named above but I have a hunch that SOME of these 'build xxx over ten weeks' type things might be a bit of a scam...

The publisher convinces somebody that they'll make a fortune by doing it & so they pay the publisher a sum of money.

Then there are insufficient sales and the thing falls flat.

This is why you hardly ever see them get past the second or third installment.

A bit like those companies that charge you to publish your book, etc...

Somewhere I've got a zillion magazines and all the bits that I haven't lost to build a nitro-powered M3 GTR radio control car.  Gawd knows why I started that... lol
